Arriving soon to Civic Motors Honda, the 2021 Civic Type R and Type R Limited Edition will begin arriving this month. During the pre-order for the Limited Edition, 100 units were sold in just 4 minutes! So, what makes this model so sought after? Let’s dig in and see why hot-hatch enthusiasts are praising this Civic.

At first glance, you can tell this Hatchback is something to salivate over. The Phoenix Yellow paint of the Limited Edition catches the eye immediately and hints that there is a beast under the hood. Inside the vehicle, there is a special number plaque on the center console, designating the build number.

While the Civic Type R definitely has the racing spirit of Honda, the Type R Limited Edition takes it a step further. Weight has a lot to do with racing performance, and that’s why the Limited Edition’s weight has been curbed by 21 kilograms from the standard Type R. That’s not the only change however. The Limited Edition has lightweight forged aluminum alloy wheels from BBS which has saved it an additional 8 kilograms of weight while also adding to ride comfort. Along with the aluminum wheels, the Type R Limited Edition has been outfitted with grade-exclusive Michelin Cup 2 tires with improved cornering performance.

To fully immerse yourself in the experience of this vehicle, the engineers of the Type R Limited Edition want drivers to use the unique programming for the Active Damper System (ADS) which was updated last year to sample inputs 10 times faster than before. The electrically assisted steering has also been reprogrammed to match the dynamic performance and light weight BBS alloys.

Under the hood, the 2021 Civic Type R and Type R Limited Edition draw power from the same race-bred 2.0-liter direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with VTEC™ valvetrain, putting out a peak 306-horseopwer (SAE net) and a peak 295 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net), with power to the front wheels delivered through a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Both Type R models allow drivers to choose between three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and +R – that vary throttle mapping, damping force and steering assist

LogR:

An exclusive feature for the 2021 Civic Type R is an all new data-logging app designed to provide drivers with data and scoring information to help improve performing on tracks and closed courses. Watch this video here to see how to use this smartphone app for when you hit the track.

Drivers interact with Honda LogR through three main functions: A Performance Monitor provides vehicle information to the driver on the Display Audio screen, while Log Mode records lap times on the track. Finally, the Auto Score function encourages smooth driving by monitoring braking, acceleration and steering, and generating a “driving smoothness” score using proprietary algorithms developed by Honda with the help of professional Honda drivers.

This app is available to both iPhone and Android users through the Google Play Store and App store.
