We often hear about Honda Sensing technology, a suite of different systems which are increasingly present on the majority of new vehicles offered by Honda, but some consumers are still wondering what this system is, how it works, and especially what its benefits are. Here is a summary of Honda Sensing technology that we hope will be able to answer your questions.

Collision avoidance at the heart of the Honda Sensing system

Driver assistance technologies in the Honda Sensing package are designed to prevent accidents by automatically braking the vehicle for the driver, or by ensuring that it remains in its lane.

An audible warning is first sent to the driver when any kind of danger is detected. This potential danger can be a vehicle braking suddenly in front of you, or if you pass the center line on the highway without turning on your turn signal. If the driver does not respond to the initial warning, the various Honda Sensing systems come into play to avoid the danger and prevent an accident.

Several security technologies offered with Honda Sensing

Let's take a look at the different technologies in the Honda Sensing system. First there is collision mitigation brake system (CMBS) which detects a possible collision and then brakes automatically to slow down the vehicle. If the danger persists, the CMBS system is able to brake more firmly.

Next is the adaptive cruise control that maintains a pre-set distance with the vehicle in front of you when cruise control is activated. That means that if you are cruising down the highway with cruise control on, and the vehicle ahead of you slows down, your Honda vehicle will also automatically slow down to keep a constant distance.

LKAS (Lane Keep Assist) is able to take control of the steering wheel and redirect the vehicle to the center of the lane if it detects that your vehicle is about to exit the lane. Combined with Road Departure Mitigation system (RDM), which can go as far as applying brakes to avoid leaving the road, and Honda’s lane departure warning system which gives an audible signal to the driver that the vehicle is moving out of its lane, these systems ensure that you are always headed in the right direction.

Finally, forward collision warning system, integrated with the CMBS system, will also send a warning signal if you approach a vehicle in front of you that is slower or stopped.

Together, these systems provide greater safety for Honda drivers. Come to Civic Motors today to learn more about Honda Sensing safety systems!
