2016 Honda Accord - Variation on a theme

This ninth generation of one of the most popular mid-size sedans currently on the market received a refreshed design for the 2016 model-year.

The 2016 Honda Accord: sober but effective changes

With six titles under its belt, including that of top safety pick from the IIHS and Car and Driver’s “10Best”, the Honda Accord needs no more introduction. This ninth generation of one of the most popular mid-size sedans currently on the market received a refreshed design for the 2016 model-year. Nothing too extravagant, but just enough to add some flare to an otherwise tamed sedan.

The front and rear portion received the most significant modifications, applying Honda’s new visual signature to the elegant vehicle. The result is a bolder front grille with the frown-looking chrome strip, highlighting the edge of the hood line, a redesigned front grille and a set of modernized LED headlamps. The taillights have now adopted a more dynamic shape with all-LED lighting.

The 2016 Honda Accord offers two powertrain options. The entry-level engine is the 2.4-liter, 4 cylinder, rated at 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, or 189/182 should you opt for the Sport and Sport Honda Sensing trim. Two versions also offer the 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 278 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the chosen version and engine, the transmission will vary between a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic or a CVT. And thanks to the ECON mode that helps improve fuel economy, the 2016 Honda Accord will get you a combined average that will vary between 7.6 and 9.4L/100km, depending on the engine and the transmission pairing chosen.

Many techonological additions to the 2016 Honda Accord

This year, the Accord also receives for the first time the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto application that allows improved connectivity between HondaLink and your smartphone. That new feature joins the list of generous equipment already available throughout the lineup and that includes heated front seats, HandsFreeLink with Bluetooth connectivity and wheel-mounted controls, SMS and e-mail function, heated rear seats, satellite radio, adaptive cruise control, wireless device charging, navigation, proximity key, and more.

Another new-comer has joined the Accord lineup and that is the Honda Sensing suite, available on the LX and Sport trims. The Honda Sensing trim adds a selection of high tech, active safety features to your entry-level Honda. Features such as collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist system, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation and forward collision warning, are added to the comprehensive list of basic safety technologies, with vehicle stability assist with traction control, ABS, brake assist and the Next Generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure.
