2014 Honda Civic – New and improved

''After a 2013 makeover, the 2014 Honda Civic has been refreshed again, ensuring its number one position in the spotlight. Coupes received styling tweaks to the front and rear''

This January, the automaker outsold its closest competitor and secured its stance as the best-selling passenger car in Canada for 16 consecutive years. The Honda Civic has a reputation for durability, quality, and reliability, while also providing consumers with a range of models. Now, for the 2014 model year, the Civic has even more to offer.

After a 2013 makeover, the 2014 Honda Civic has been refreshed again, ensuring its number one position in the spotlight. Coupes received styling tweaks to the front and rear, including a more aggressive-looking grille, while Civic models in general received a few interior upgrades, such as soft-touch materials.

The modern-styled and simple-to-use central touch screen, offered on the LX sedan and the EX coupe (and higher trims), is another element to appreciate from the all-new 2014 Civic. Buyers may also find that rear seating is more comfortable in the 2014 Civic sedan if compared to its predecessor, and cargo volume is above average within its segment.

The more performance-oriented Civic Si also benefits from a rear spoiler and 18-inch wheels. It is equipped with a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine, which generates 205 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque, and is paired to a close ratio 6-speed manual with limited slip differential.

The big news however, is the replacement of the 5-speed automatic with a more fuel-efficient Continuously Variable Transmission on coupes and sedans, in addition to a very useful blind spot camera and display. The CVT offers smoother acceleration and improved fuel economy.

For example, the 2014 Civic sedan, when equipped with a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine and paired to a CVT transmission, will offer an excellent consumption rating of 6.7/5.0 litres per 100 kilometres (city/highway). And for consumers that wish to drive a vehicle that is even more fuel-efficient, can opt for the 2014 Civic Hybrid. Equipped with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine and electric motor, and mated to a CVT, the front-wheel drive vehicle will deliver a rating of 4.3 and 4.1 L/100 km.

The LaneWatch blind spot display is also a very useful feature, and certainly increases safety. It provides drivers with the ability to view vehicles in their blind spot via a small camera positioned just below the right exterior side mirror. The footage then shows up on a display on the centre console, giving drivers a slightly wider visual of their surroundings. It should come as no surprise then, that the 2014 Civic also received the TOP SAFETY PICK+ status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the top 5-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

With the additional modifications and new elements, the new 2014 Honda Civic is a real temptation. It already has a great reputation, nice styling, and admirable fuel economy ratings, specifically if you are eyeing the sedan and hybrid models. And whether it is a coupe, sedan or hybrid, buyers will find a satisfactory list of features from which to choose from.
